Shops in Oliva
Fresh food can be bought from the mornings-only market in Oliva, but the
town's supermarkets are also of a high standard, especially Mercadona in Oliva
and Amiga, a small but inexpensive hypermarket, about two miles north of Oliva
on the road to Gandia.
A number of cerámicas sell high quality Valencian ceramics, although ceramics
are best bought from the huge roadside shops near Gata, some 25 kms south of
Oliva.
Good clothes are not cheap in Spain, although you may pick up excellent
reasonably-priced shoes, especially in Alicante. Try Corte Inglés Cigars and
lighters are a good buy and Spanish cigarettes can be inexpensive. All brands
are generally much cheaper the UK.
Wines and spirits are very cheap - buy from the supermarkets, but shop around a
bit. There are two bodegas in Oliva, selling wines and spirits from the cask,
where you can sample before buying. Deposits are charged on the bottles, so take
your own.
